A fraction said to be a part of a whole. A fraction has a numerator and a non-zero integer known as denominator.

**Example:**

In the above the circle is divided into 8 sectors, out of which 6 of them are coloured. So to show how many of the parts are coloured out of the whole we can write the fraction as **6/8.**

The top number says that how many sectors of circle are coloured and the bottom number shows the total number of sectors the circle is divided into.
