Potential Energy

Potential energy can be defined as the energy which is stored in the object because of its position, motion, electric charge or other factors. Potential energy is one of the two main energy forms alongside kinetic energy.

For example: When a bow is drawn it stores energy as the result of its position. On its initial position, there is no energy stored in the bow but when its position is changed from its initial position, bow stores energy because of the change in its position. This stored energy is referred to as potential energy.

When the is released this potential energy is converted into kinetic energy.

Potential energy is f to types:

  • Gravitational potential energy.
  • Elastic potential energy.
