  • Select Windows update form the list of troubleshooting options.
  • Select Advanced and choose Run as administrator.
  • Click Next and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Restart PC.

Reset Windows Update Component

  • Press Windows + X and select Command Prompt (Admin).
  • Type the following commands, press enter after each of them:

net stop wuauserv

net stop cryptSvc

net stop bits

net stop msiserver

ren C:\\Windows\\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

ren C:\\Windows\\System32\\catroot2 Catroot2.old

net start wuauserv

net start cryptSvc

net start bits

net start msiserver

  • Reboot your PC.

Perform a Clean Boot

  • Press Windows + R on your keyboard.
  • Type msconfig in the Run dialog box and click OK.
  • In the System Configuration Window, click the Services tab, check the box next to Hide all Microsoft services, and then Disable all.
  • Switch to the Startup tab, click Open Task Manager.
  • Select each Startup item, and then click Disable.
  • Exit Task Manager.
  • Reboot your PC.
