Parotid Region

The area around the ear is called Parotid region, it is bounded superiorly by the zygomatic arch, inferiorly by line joining the angle of the mandible to the mastoid process, anteriorly by anterior border of masseter and posteriorly by mastoid process.

Parotid gland and facial nerve are the main structures in this area.

The facial nerve enters the parotid glan, when it comes out of the cranial cavity via the stylomastoid foramen in this region, where it splits into 5 terminal branches which come on the face, underneath the anterior margin of the parotid gland

The comprehensive understanding of the anatomy of parotid region is essential in clinical practice especially while performing surgical procedures on parotid gland
